Holiday pancakes

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

Nothing says holidays like having a week day pancake breakfast. So yesterday, my second day of holidays, I got up to spoil myself in the kitchen. I had a punnet of blueberries in the freezer, so decided to really spoil myself and make blueberry pancakes.

Basic Pancake Recipe

1 cup plain flour
1/8 tsp salt
1 egg
3/4 cup milk

Sift the flour and salt into a bowl.
Add the egg and milk and beat until smooth.

Notes:
This recipe uses metric cups, but if you have the american sizes, this will still work. Just add a little less salt. The proportions will still be the same. Maybe just use a medium egg instead of a large or extra large one.
For blueberry pancakes, I just threw in a couple of handfuls of blueberries to the batter and mixed them in, just prior to cooking. But I have teeny tiny hands, so go with the number of handfulls that feels right to you.

Cooking these are fun, because when the first side is cooking and the blueberries are just sitting there, it doesn’t look like it’ll work. Then you get to flip it over and press down and yum!, the treatment the blueberries go through… Well, try it, you’ll see how delicious it makes them.

I put them in a stack on my plate and poured on maple syrup. So here’s the end result…

Oops, I guess someone ate them. Well, technically, this IS the end result :)

Block 12 done!

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

I’ve now finished all of the easiest blocks of Moonglow, now I get to move onto the stars and an increasing number of points joining. All the fabric is cut out for all if the remaining blocks (I did that last year when I restarted), so there’s no hold up on piecing the next blocks.

For now, here’s my block 12 happy dance – all 12 done. I found my usual photo spot occupied when I went to take the photo.

Overcome the fear

So I had to improvise.

August Roundup

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

On the first of the month, Lynne over at Lily’s Quilts hosts the Fresh Sewing Day. It’s a chance to look back on what you’ve done over the past month. Normally I just go and check out everyone else’s work, but since I actually made an effort to carve out some me time this month, I actually have stuff for show and tell, so I’ve decided to play along. Regular readers of this blog will have seen these pics already, but it’s nice to put them in one place.

Fresh Sewing Day

First, I picked up Moonglow again and made progress on all 12 of Block 12.

I also started the Farmer’s Wife Quilt, and have 5 blocks done.

First 3 weeks

And I made a cover/bag for my ipad (hand sewn of course, because that’s more fun than getting out the machine – and allows for complete improv sewing).

On the knitting front, I finished the pieces for my cable jacket. But it’s still waiting for me to sew it up and finish it.

And restarted my knitted coat.

There’s also been baking in there, but I kept forgetting to take photos before it was demolished.

And lastly, I attempted to chop off my foot with an escalator, but it’s healing nicely (if ugly-y, and hairy from where I had to be careful with the razor around the bandages that just came off).

Oops

Grossed you out? Glad I could accomplish something new today :)

And now that I have that all lined up, it looks like a lot. I look forward to seeing what I can get done this month, given I don’t have to go to work. What’s that sound? Oh, that’d be me, jumping up and down, yelling “yay, no work for a month”.
