Macros woke me up at 2.20am today. This isn’t all that rare, however today I just couldn’t get back to sleep. So, what to do when suffering insomnia.
Well. First spend 1.5 hours trying to get back to sleep. When that fails and you’re finally ready to give up, turn on the light and read a trashy novel in the hopes that it will help you get back to sleep. When that fails, start surfing the web looking for a yarn shop to visit in that big trip later this year – I now know I’ll be going here in December. So glad they have a shop in Dunedin since I’m not going to any of their other towns. I plan to bring back a stack of possum blend yarn since I do so love the knitted garments Granny gave me over the last few years. Plus, I can pay in NZ what I would be paying in pounds/euros.
Finally, at 5am, admit that you should just get up and start the day. Begin by taking a long shower. Get dressed, feed the cat, unload and load the dishwasher, vacuum half the house, then decide that having to get through a long day on almost no sleep is bad enough, you really shouldn’t punish yourself further by doing chores.
So time for breakfast. Decide that maybe this time you won’t have your normal insomnia breakfast of blueberry pancakes. Instead, finally bake that batch of muesli bars you’ve had the ingredients sitting on the bench for for the last month. Or two. (They’re in the oven now). And have a bowl of fresh watermelon left over from the weekend’s margaritas to tide you over until they’ve finished baking (60 min is a looong time!).
Decide to finally get around to installing Sweet Captcha for blog commenting so you can turn off Akismet. Briefly contemplate doing other blog housekeeping as you really should think about changing themes or finally finish setting up the right hand panel that’s been waiting, oh, 3 years or so. Then decide that you really couldn’t be bothered.
Think about sitting reading blogs because you’re way behind on your reading again. Then realise that reading the computer screen while writing this post is making you sleepy and it’s too late to go back to bed. Even if you’ll be able to sleep. So blog reading will have to wait until tomorrow morning, after a decent night’s sleep (one hopes).
Realise that the muesli bar still has 20 minutes in the oven and while you’re not hungry, you really need some sustenance and a way to stay awake, given that you don’t drink coffee. So pick up the last two pieces of dark chocolate toblerone that you were scarfing down yesterday.
And think maybe you’ll just sit and knit until it’s time to go to work. That’s not too tiring. Maybe you can get through the day. And try again tomorrow.
PS. About Sweet Captcha (no annoying deformed letters for me). If you’re on the computer with a proper mouse or touch pad, drag and drop. If you’re on a touch screen device, just tap on the right image. Works on my ipad, so hopefully will work for whatever device you’re using
